The Unbearable Heaviness of Loving

This poem is inspired by the book title "The Unbearable Lightness of Being".

When people chase each other,
Do they realize how temporary those feelings are?

When people say "I love you to the moon and back",
Do they ever felt the weight of the moon behind those words?

When people say "I will never leave you",
Do they know how lovers became strangers?

When people spent years living together,
Do they understand the value of those years?

When people say "I Do",
Do they find oaths cheap as sand or rare as gold?

When people have children,
Do they try to repeat history?

When people grow old together,
Do they find it sad how modern people date?
